YeahFilter processes the data described below only on your computer and under your control. YeahForge does not receive it.
Data on your computer
YeahFilter's background service keeps the following in a database on your computer. On a Mac it lies in /Library/Application Support/YeahFilter, a folder that only the system (root) can open.
- Settings and rules: schedules, time limits, website, program and keyword rules, exceptions and protection settings.
- Self-blocks: websites and keywords a user blocked, and programs a user blocked for their own account. A program is identified by its code signature (Team ID and Signing ID), its code hashes or a hash of its file, together with the path it was blocked from.
- Browsing history: for pages opened in the browsers YeahFilter supervises, the time, the computer account, the browser, the address and the title of the page.
- Usage time: for each minute of use, the account and the website or app in use, so that time limits can be enforced.
- Blocked attempts and security events: when something was blocked or a protection changed, the time, the account, what was affected and why.
- The console password, stored only as an Argon2id hash. The password itself is not stored.
- Downloaded block lists, which are lists of domain names.
Browsing history, usage time, blocked attempts and security events are deleted automatically after the retention period, 90 days unless it is changed in the console. When you uninstall YeahFilter from the console, the uninstaller deletes the database.
Who can see it
Anyone who knows the console password can see the history, usage time and events of every account in the YeahFilter console on this computer. That is the parent, or the person you chose to keep the password. Each user sees their own remaining time and the block page. Nobody else has access, including YeahForge.
Device management on a Mac
So that it does not have to ask you for each permission separately, YeahFilter offers an optional, local device management (MDM) enrollment on macOS. If you install its enrollment profile:
- A small device management server runs on your Mac as a system service and answers only on your Mac itself (
127.0.0.1). It uses no Apple push service and never contacts a server outside your Mac. - Your Mac sends it the standard check-in messages of Apple's device management. They contain identifiers and details of the Mac, such as its hardware UUID (UDID), serial number, model, macOS version and computer name. The server keeps them with its own keys and its queue of profiles in
/var/db/YeahFilterMdm, which only root can read, to recognize your Mac. - The server only installs and removes YeahFilter's own configuration profiles: one with YeahFilter's privacy permissions, system extension and login item approvals, and one with the protection you switched on. It sends no other command and requests no information about your Mac, its apps or its location.
- The uninstaller removes the enrollment, these profiles and the server's data.
Network connections
- Block lists: once a day, the service downloads public lists of domain names from
raw.githubusercontent.com(GitHub) andnsfw.oisd.nl. As with any download, these servers see your IP address and the time of the request. YeahFilter sends them nothing else. - Time: YeahFilter reads the current time from the time servers
time.apple.com,time.windows.comandpool.ntp.org, so that a timed protection cannot be ended by changing the computer's clock. These servers see your IP address. - Filters on your computer: YeahFilter checks the addresses of the pages you open on your computer. When only allowed browsers may run, a content filter on your Mac checks browser connections by their host name before they leave it. Nothing is decrypted and nothing is sent to us.
- Codex gateway (Mac, optional, off by default): when you switch on “Allow Codex in containers” with the console password, the service on your Mac accepts the requests that Codex in VS Code sends from a container or virtual machine to
127.0.0.1:47390. It decrypts only these requests, on your Mac, to check them, forwards the allowed ones with their sign-in token tochatgpt.comandauth.openai.comand refuses the rest. It stores none of their content; the service log notes the method and path of a refused request. Nothing is sent to us.
Children
Parents use YeahFilter to protect their children's accounts on a family computer. What it records about a child stays on that computer and is visible only to whoever knows the console password. We collect no data from or about children.
This website
yeahfilter.yeahforge.com sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads nothing from other servers. The web server keeps no log of visits to this site. It is a virtual server rented from Hetzner Online GmbH in a data center in Germany.
If you write to support@yeahforge.com, we use your message and address only to answer you, and keep them only as long as needed for that. The mailbox is hosted by Zoho in its data center in the European Union.
Your rights
Depending on the law that applies to you, you can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing or a copy of your data, and you can object to processing. You can also complain to a data protection authority. Because YeahFilter keeps its data only on your computer, we hold no YeahFilter data about you: you see it in the console and delete it by uninstalling YeahFilter. For anything else, write to support@yeahforge.com.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when YeahFilter's data handling changes. The date at the top shows the current version.
